The Sunshine

The Sun shines bright
while people play their parts
they live, they die, they laugh, they cry
And the Sun shines bright

They make their hay
and rejoice with their lives
with smiles, tears and hopes.
And the Sun shines Bright

Everyday, day after day
It appears and gives light
yet none of them notice its presence
they just live and die.

The Shock

It has always been shocking....afterall Life is full of surprises. Takes its own turns and twists. But this time it is really something hard. Oh Poor me.

I knew this year each of us would get four students for the 401 course on preparing a project report. And since two years I have been more into Cultural Geographies, experimenting, learning and supervising students on areas wide and interesting: Slums, Malls, Commodities, Gender, Sexuality, Cultural Wars etc.

I returned to Delhi that day. I was shocked to know that this time I am assigned Rural and Agricultural Studies and not cultural or urban Geography.....Ahhhh. It was a heavything on the head. Refused to sink in. What shall I supervise the students on? I can't sit and read on Agriculture all over again. something that I left it behind several years ago. Hmmmm.

Then I thought......let me think, let me think.......the world isn't that bad after all.

hmmmm...
hmmmm.....
hmmmmm....

Rural and Agricultural Studies:

hmmmm....
hmmmm....

....... Indian Villages; Delhi's Urban Villages; Indian Cinema and Rural Landscape; The Gendered Rural Space; Agricultural Practices and changes over Time; Farmer's Suicides; Caste and access to Common Property Resources; Agricultural Practices and the Genesis of Indian traditions, Contract Farming and Reliance Fresh, Big Apple, Safal Outlets and Mayavati's scrapped agricultural Policy; Rural Migrations; Environmental Stress and strategies in rural India......and the list went on and on.....

Who says things can't be redefined? Traditional Boundaries can always be transgressed to make New Limits, Boundaries and Edges.

Paulo Coelho writes, "a true teacher gives the disciple the courage to throw his or her world off balance, even though the disciple is afraid of things already encountered and more afraid still of what might be around the next corner"

......and isn't Life the Best Teacher of all!!!
